Nowadays many test & measurement equipment have a cooling system with a fan. These cooling systems are indispensable for the safety of the product but they do produce noise. Not every sound is suitable/fine for every workplace so in this knowledge center article, we list the sound production of products from the test & measurement category.
The noise production of this equipment has been measured at 1 meter distance from the product when it is only on (idle) and when the product is "under load". The recordings are best compared by listening to them with headphones/earphones. The background noise in the room where these measurements were taken is about 38 dBA.
If a product you are looking for is not on this list, please contact us. We will see what the possibilities are to include the product in this list.
The products can have either a 'preventive' cooling system or a 'temperature controlled' cooling system. Preventive systems switch on as soon as the product comes under load, so for example for a power supply when power needs to be supplied. Temperature-controlled systems are switched on/off based on the internal temperature of the product. In the information below you can find the type of system per product.
Each product that undergoes the measurement on this page will receive an "Eleshop noise production rating". The Eleshop sound production rating consists of a rating from 1 to 5 stars where the following measures will be used:
Produces a lot of noise continuously, not to be used in a quiet workplace
|Louder than average
Produces a lot of noise some of the time, fine when noise production does not matter much
|★ ★ ★
|Average noise production
Produces noticeable noise during cooling but relatively little the rest of the time, note when noise plays a role in the decision
|★ ★ ★ ★
|Quieter than average
Produces little noise during cooling and is quiet the rest of the time, great for the quiet workstation but during cooling it is audible
|★ ★ ★ ★ ★
|No noticeable noise
Produces no noticeable noise either during cooling or idle, perfect choice for the quiet workplace
