Noise production test & measurement equipment

Nowadays many test & measurement equipment have a cooling system with a fan. These cooling systems are indispensable for the safety of the product but they do produce noise. Not every sound is suitable/fine for every workplace so in this knowledge center article, we list the sound production of products from the test & measurement category.

The noise production of this equipment has been measured at 1 meter distance from the product when it is only on (idle) and when the product is "under load". The recordings are best compared by listening to them with headphones/earphones. The background noise in the room where these measurements were taken is about 38 dBA.

The products can have either a 'preventive' cooling system or a 'temperature controlled' cooling system. Preventive systems switch on as soon as the product comes under load, so for example for a power supply when power needs to be supplied. Temperature-controlled systems are switched on/off based on the internal temperature of the product. In the information below you can find the type of system per product.
