I've used ZD before, more expensive Hakko, but outstanding quality, doesn't feel heavy and it is in another league. Made in Japan, and you can feel that in every way. Worth the extra money if you just want the best and use it frequently. Also the extra tips and filters are made in Japan. Being a fan in audio stuff, Japan is the best in every way. In the future i will buy the soldering station from them, i have a ZD and for the money is ok, but if you don't want to spend time checking temp accuracy, stability, extra tinkering, go for Hakko. The only downside is the cheap holder, but you can use another holder, no problem there.

easy to use and clean, feels high quality build. I had todesolder ~20 relays and could not imagine it without this gun. really recommend for eveyone considering buying it.

This flashy toy-looking device exceeded my expectations, turning desoldering through-hole components into a trivial and robust no-brainer task.

Cleaning and maintaining it seems to be well thought-of,

and I strongly second the other reviewer's suggestion of purchasing C1100 stand as well, it's a solid stand and well warranted if you have to use this gun for any amount of time.

I may look like a toy, but this tool is probably the best standalone desoldering gun on the market. I've owned other desoldering tools before this, both desoldering station and standalone gun, and they both had a tendency to clog up. The Hakko however, provides enough heat and suction power to easily handle jobs that would have been a struggle with my earlier tools. I advise you to also buy the Hakko C1100 iron stand, to keep the FR-301 safe and steady.
