Details

The XDS series is the new product line of Owon based on the succesful SDS series. The performances are outstanding, with a memory depth of 20 Megapoints and 55.000 waveforms per second waveform capture rate.

The XDS2102A has a 12 bit ADC instead of the more common 8 bit ADC. Only improving the resolution would not be as valuable if Owon would not have improved the noise floor as well. And Owon did not forget this. For this scope the vertical sensitivity begins at 1mV, instead of 5mV, and goes up untill 10V/div.

SCPI is also supported for remote operation and reading out values. The scope also has standard multi-trigger support.

Review by Bob van der Schaaf

The application of my scope is often catching pulses as they pass, and less frequently surfing the waves. High resolution is valuable for knowing what is exactly pulsed. Using a signal generator up to 60 MHz showed that the OWON XDS2102A meets its major specification domains, and the expected detail from a 12 bit resolution scope. The low noise, about 0.3 mV, and 1 mV sensitivity are highly useful for my applications. The supplied software is not very impressive, and the driver does not work for Windows 10, version 1903. No problem for me, because I prefer a dedicated oscilloscope; otherwise I would have bought an OWON VDS instrument without controlling knobs and buttons.
The instrument has a broad wealth of features, and it takes some time to master them all. Since I own it a few days, only the most important have been checked. It feels sturdy and reliable, and I expect the equipment will serve me well for the years to come, for very attractive low cost of ownership.
