With the TBMDA1 modulated wideband driver amplifier from Tekbox it is possible to create a cheap signal source that can be used to test the immunity of electrical systems and products.
This amplifier is designed to be driven by the tracking generator output of a spectrum analyser. Due to an amplification of 22 dB and a 1 dB compression point of +22 dB, it can increase the power of a tracking generator to 150 mW. With this, near field probes can be controlled or an electric field of up to 50V/m can be generated in combination with a TEM cell.
Immunity test signals can be CW, AM or PM. In addition, the TBMDA1 also offers built-in capabilities for 1 kHz AM/PM or
generate 217 Hz PM signals. This 217 Hz PM signal can be generated with 12.5% duty cycle to generate the TDMA noise of a smartphone to simulate.
The connections on this amplifier are the standard 50-Ohm SMA connections. Furthermore, this amplifier will have to be powered externally with 5V/235mA via the mini-USB-B connection at the back.
This can usually be done with a USB 3.0 port or a telephone charger.
A nice addition to the device is the Tekbox EMCview PC application. This software makes it easy to perform an immunity test because the software can control a variety of tracking generators, especially useful during repeated tests during DUT validation modifications/improvements. This software supports spectrum analysers from Rigol, Siglent and R&S FPC/FPH.
Note! Never simply connect the output of the TBMDA1 directly to the input of a spectrum analyser. Check the maximum input voltage of the analyser and protect it with a suitable attenuator.
