The wire is not copper - they're ferromagnetic (except the yellow ones for some reason). The rated current is not a joke, the resistance is about 0.75ohm. The insulation sleeves are also very slippery and the alligator clips just tend to spin inside when squeezing them.

Cheap and effective. No reason not to have it. Do not use it for high current scenario it is not meant for it and that should be obvious anyways. Essential tool for people who experiment.
