The Imdes Jumbo Condens IT is a medium-large vapour phase soldering furnace, suitable for PCB's with maximum dimensions of 430 x 230 x 20 mm. The Jumbo has an output of 1250 Watt and has a cycle time of 15 minutes. In addition, all Imdes vapour phase furnaces are equipped with a Profiler function, with which temperature profiles can be set.

What is vapour phase soldering?

Vapour phase is thé affordable alternative to IR reflow ovens, with a result that is also significantly better. We have the worldwide first of this technique and expect a revolution in the soldering world of hobbyists and small businesses.

In vapour phase, the board is heated by means of a Galden vapour. Galden is a liquid that forms a vapour at exactly the right temperature to match the solder paste. Because this vapour cannot get colder or warmer, the soldering process is very uniform and controllable. Even under BGA components and with heavier / larger components, due to the good thermal conductivity of Galden.

How does the Jumbo Condensation IT work?

The operation of the Jumbo Condenses IT is simple:

  1. Pour the Galden liquid into the bowl (an arrow stick is included).
  2. Switch the device on and wait until Standby turns green.
  3. Place the PCB to be soldered on the grid. The PCB is of course already equipped with solder paste and components.
  4. Close the lid and press start as soon as Standby is green again, to start soldering.
  5. There is now a vapour, which will condense on the PCB until it is completely warmed up.
  6. The vapour now rises further and a temperature sensor registers this.
  7. After a while the soldering is finished and the Jumbo Condens-IT will start cooling down with 4 big fans under the bin.
  8. Once the cooling is complete, the PCB can be removed (gloves are included as they are still warm).
  9. The whole process takes only about 15 minutes.

The circuit board is now soldered very evenly. This is beneficial for the life of the components and reworking is no longer necessary. Instruction video

Are there any disadvantages?

There is actually only one small disadvantage: the Galden liquid is quite pricy. Fortunately, the oven has been designed in such a way that there is very little consumption - ideally, all the Galden can remain in the oven, but in practice a little bit will always escape. Galden is not poisonous or dangerous as long as it doesn't get warmer than 300 degrees (against which the system is double protected). As long as the bin is never opened during soldering and not too many Galden escapes, the consumption will not be more than about 1 L per 100 prints. If we compare these costs with the costs of an IR reflow oven (which gives a less good result), more than 1000 prints can be soldered before the costs of this solution increase.
