The 0.5 mm round soldering tip is suitable for general use. This tip is already small enough for coarse SMD work and also has good thermal conductivity. The 0.2 mm tips are even more tiped and suitable for the finest work. Keep in mind that tiped tips do not pass on the heat of the soldering iron as well as thick tips.
The tips are fine tips to solder with. Because the contact surface with the soldering is relatively large, tin flows easily with these tips. The 1.0 mm is suitable for fine work and the 3.0 mm or 5.0 mm tips for more robust work.
Dimension A in the picture alongside is 0.8mm or 1.6mm or 3.2mm or 5.0mm. The chisel tips are the most popular tips. The 1.6 mm tip is ideal for both through-hole and SMD soldering, the 3.2 mm and the 5.0 mm tips are for more robust work. The 0.8mm tip is suitable for (not too fine) SMD work. At the 0.8 mm tip, the chisel part is so small that it may seem as if this tip is round.
This is a soldering tip with which parts can be soldered, which is not possible with other tips. The thickness of the tip is chosen in such a way that sufficient heat is led to the tip from the soldering iron.
This tip has a knife shape. The tip is 5.0 mm thick.
All solder tips have approximately the following dimensions at the base of the tip.
