The PRP1 is an affordable 2GHz power rail probe designed for precise measurement of low-level ripple, noise, and transients on DC rails. Optimal performance is achieved by soldering the included connector close to SMD components. With a ±24V offset and ±350mV dynamic range, it captures high-frequency AC components without circuit loading. It offers professional performance at a fraction of the cost of premium probes, making power integrity validation accessible for budget-conscious digital systems.
The PRP1 features 50kΩ DC and 50Ω AC impedance, preserving high-frequency content while minimising loading. Manual DC offset adjustment via coarse and fine potentiometers removes the DC component, allowing the oscilloscope to focus on AC ripple without damage. This design enables noise measurements down to 65µV RMS at 20MHz when calibrated.
For oscilloscopes lacking internal 50Ω termination, the probe works with a 50Ω feed-through load, though bandwidth is limited to ~200MHz. A high-performance pairing is the Rigol MHO984 (800MHz). To reach the full 2GHz bandwidth, a 2GHz oscilloscope is required.
