Details

The GW Instek GPT-9500 series offers professional safety testing in a compact format. The GPT-9513 is a 3-in-1 model supporting AC/DC withstanding, insulation resistance up to 10GΩ, and continuity tests. Featuring an integrated 8-channel scanner and 150VA AC capacity, it is ideal for high-volume automated environments.

The unit features a 4.3" colour TFT LCD with multi-language support and a statistics function for tracking results. It includes RS-232C, USB Device, and Signal I/O for remote control, while a front-panel USB Host port enables easy data export and parameter sharing.

To ensure safety and precision, the tester includes ARC detection and an Open/Short Check (OSC) to verify connections before high-voltage application. The rear panel provides dedicated scanner outputs for streamlined integration into automated test systems.

The GPT-9503 offers a cheaper alternative to the GPT-9513, as it DOES NOT allow channels to be configured as a return path (Low), which enables the testing of multi-tap transformers. In contrast, GPT-9503 is primarily used to test multiple products simultaneously against a common ground, as its channels are limited to High or Off status.

Tests

Hi-pot (AC/DC Withstanding)
Aim: To prevent users of a product from receiving an electrical shock due to insulation failure.
Method: By measuring current leakage between high-voltage and "safe" low-voltage parts. The AC test provides up to 5kV/30mA and the DC test up to 6kV/10mA.

Insulation Resistance
Aim: To test the quality of the insulation.
Method: Measures resistance from 0.1MΩ to 10GΩ using DC voltages between 50V and 1000V.

Continuity Test
Aim: To verify that conductive parts and their ground are well connected.
Method: Checks the electrical path using a 100mA DC output current with a measurement accuracy of 1Ω ±0.2Ω.

Arc Detection
Aim: To expose potential problems such as loose screws or poor insulation.
Method: Monitors for rapid current changes during high-voltage testing that indicate potential arcing.
