The GW Instek GDS-2104E is a 4-channel oscilloscope and the 100MHz version in the GDS-2000E series from GW Instek. The unique part of the GDS-2000E scopes is that they feature an AD converter for each channel. This means the sampling speed doesn't have to be divided between the channels, and the scopes offer a sampling frequency of 1 MS/s per channel. This means that when using the scope on two channels, it'll offer the same performance as a 2 GS/s scope would normally.
With the 4-channel scopes, the AD converters are split between channels 1 and 2, and channels 3 and 4 separately. So when channels 1, 2 and 3 are in use, the first two will operate in 500 MS/s mode, and channel 3 will continue to function as a 1 GS/s channel.
Scopes in the GDS-2000E series feature a large 8" colour display. With a 10 Mpts/channel memory depth, there is plenty of space to store signals with high precision. With the 120.000 wfs/s capture rate, signals can be analysed quickly with these scopes. Compared to the SDS2000 scopes, these scopes offer some better features.
The scopes can be connected to a computer using USB or LAN for data storage or analysis. Apart from that, a USB stick can be connected with which data can be logged for up to 100 hours straight. This data is stored in a CSV file, which can be used by, for example, MATLAB or Excel. Data can be printed directly on printers that support PictBridge.
Using the built-in voltage meter, RMS values up to 3 digits precise can be displayed. Apart from that, the scopes feature a 5-digit frequency counter to measure the frequencies that make up the signal.
The GDS scopes offer very low background noise of only 400 µ Vpp in the signal processing. Background noise strongly influences the accuracy when measuring small signals.
The scopes offer Dual-display functionality, making it possible to view both the entire signal and a small part of it at the same time. Using this feature, the properties of the signal can be easily analysed since it gives a more detailed overview.
Models ending in 2 feature 2 channels, the ones ending in 4 offer 4 channels. Apart from the number of channels, the models within one series have similar features.
